It's drizzling charity shop railway books at home ............

...... apart from my monthly subscription copy of December 2024  Railway Modeller, I was really trying to downsize my railway literature. In the last few days my 95 year-old mother-in-law found a replica copy, in A1 condition, of  'Ian Allens, BR Locos Combined Volume, 1948' in a Waterlooville charity shop.  If that was not enough, I found a copy in the free bin at a local library, ' British Railway Enthusiasm' by Ian Carter. The sleeve notes description, 'The first academic book to study railway enthusiasts in Britain. Far from a trivial topic, the post-war train spotting craze swept most boys and some girls into a passion for railways, and for many, ignited a lifetime's interest.'

What's been happening on Train Mad Grandad?

To start off with, I had a great day last Saturday at the Tolworth Showtrainexhibition in Surrey I started out with a Bedford/St.Pancras/Vauxhal/Surbiton rail journey followed by an easy ride on the exhibition shuttle bus from outside the stunning Surbiton Station.I even found a great cafe for a full English breakfast around the corner from the Exhibition before going in! Recent additions to the site since the last blog.....   Art Deco Surbiton Station photos Tolworth Show photos Sixties and Seventies Britis Rail TV Adverts Re-arranged web links index Re-vitalised You Tube Channel  Steam Engines and Locomotives I-Spy book Many more British Pathe railway features  New humorous tea/coffee mugs  Readers' contributions

Thanks to a hacker getting into my e-mail account ....

... and sending money pleading e-mails to my friends, I have had to start a new e-mail account. On top of the the lowlife used it to get into my You Tube account. You Tube wiped of all my videos on my channel. Hence, I have started a new channel Train Mad Grandad and started uploading all my video files. I reached the daily limit and will load more tomorrow and you might find some links on the site are not working. I will restore all videos as soon as the upload limit allows!   Stop Press All videos restored to the new You Tube Channel

Two classy exhibitions in the diary

Hi there, I am hoping to go to the upcoming November Tolworth Showtrain Exhibiton in SW London and then in December to the Christmas Model Railway Show in Central Manchester.  I am also hoping to clear the easiest of all my railway bucket list items by visiting the Stalybridge Station Buffet and Bar! Plus any other visits to Railway Stations along the way!
